Hey guys. I need some help please. I've had pain in my 50 year old big toe since February and have been nursing it through training by sticking to positional sparring. I have primarily been doing Sebs intermediate classes on a loop 3 days a week for almost 3 years, I've been at bjj 7 years. I'm training bjj maybe 3-4 days a week on average. My yoga has also been much impacted by the pain in my toe. Walking and running during warm up is all fine.
I've been to a foot clinic, podiatrist and finally got to see an orthopaedic surgeon today who looked at my MRI and said it was Hallux Rigidus or an arthritic mtp joint and there was nothing he could do. He said surgery would take it from 80% to 60. At the minute if I drive off, land heavy or stub it the pain is acute. Otherwise it's not so bad. He said I could continue but left me kind of hanging as to how long more I could expect to be able to train for and the long term prognosis.
I'm pretty gutted tbh. Didn't really know who to talk to about it. I've had some good support on this forum before so I'm hoping there are a few more aged grapplers with dicky toes that can offer up some advice. Thanks in advance.
OSS!
